The name Stringers Hill is said to be a reference to hangings carried out in history, but there is nothing recorded. It has been an area of heathland though since at least the charcoal burning and deforestation of sessile oak's that fuelled the regional iron industry during the industrial revolution. It is now a cow pasture, the cattle graze the land and the harsh trampling is tolerated by the heathland species. This creates a sustainable heathland amenity.
